Applicants are advised that the Honorable Supreme Court of India, vide Writ Petition (Civil) No.656 of 1998, has issued an order regarding effective elimination of ragging in academic institutions.
The Honorable Court has defined ragging as:
“Any disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the
effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness any other student, indulging in rowdy
or undisciplined activities which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear of apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student
or asking the students to do any act or perform something which the student will not do in the ordinary course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or a junior student.”
The Honorable Court has also given directions regarding the steps that may be taken by an institution, by way of punishment against students indulging in ragging, which may include the following:
Anti-Ragging Measures
Ragging means causing, inducing, compelling or forcing a student whether by way of a practical joke or otherwise to do any act which detracts from human dignity or violates his person or exposes him to ridicule or to forbear from doing any unlawful act by intimidating, wrongfully restraining, wrongfully containing or injuring or by using criminal force to him or by holding out to him any threat of such intimidation, wrongful restrain, wrongful confinement, injury or the
use of criminal forces. The Institute campus is ragging free and to ensure this, Anti Ragging Committee, Anti Ragging Squad and Mentoring Cell have been formed as per the guidelines of UGC, Pt. B.D. Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak.
The Institute strongly adheres to anti-ragging policy and implements it through true spirit of actions. The institute takes several timely actions including close monitoring to ensure the system is in place to mee t the requirements and it is ragging free. Also the administration, concerned faculty and staff conducts several meetings with the newly joined fresh as well as senior students appraising them about the policy of the institute and counselling them about
the good practices of interaction with fresh s tudents, brotherhood and personality building.
